The ED₅₀ is less than 0.75 μg/ml as determined by its ability to induce alkaline phosphatase production by C3H10T1/2 fibroblasts.

Stemfactor SHH is shipped at room temperature. Lyophilized SHH is stable for up to 6 months from date of receipt when stored at -20°C to -80°C. Reconstituted SHH, at concentrations greater than 0.1 mg/ml, is stable for up to 3 months when stored at -20°C and for 1 year when stored at -80°C.

Centrifuge briefly and then reconstitute in 1X PBS to yield a stock solution of no less than 0.1 mg/ml of SHH. Reconstituted protein should be used immediately or stored in working aliquots at -20°C. For long-term storage, it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Avoid freeze-thaw cycles as it can result in loss of activity.
