Biotium offers a number of popular chromogenic and fluorogenic substrates for alkaline phosphatase as well as other phosphatases such as protein tyrosine phosphatase. Alkaline phosphatase substrates are widely used in applications including ELISAs (Meth. Mol. Biol. 32, 461(1994)), immonuhistochemistry ( J. Clin. Microbiol. 19, 230(1984)), and Northern, Southern and Western blot techniques. Our indolyl type substrates yield brightly colored precipitating dyes that are easily detected, while our coumarin- or fluorescein-based fluorogenic substrates offer superior sensitivity.

Chromogenic Substrates for b-Glucuronidase
Detection of b-Glucuronidase activity is widely used to identify E. coli bacteria contamination in food and water. The enzyme, which is encoded by the GUS gene, is also frequently used as a reporter gene in plants. Biotium offers three chromogenic glucuronidase substrates, each of which yields a blue-, red- and pink-colored precipitating product respectively. The red and pink colors may be easier to detect than the dark blue color of X-GlcU product in plant cells. Biotium also offers the popular fluorogenic b-glucuronidase substrate MUG for ultra sensitive detection.
